How to optimally utilize one's energy.

The Almighty bestows upon every being with three different forms of energy - ๐™Ž๐™š๐™ญ๐™ช๐™–๐™ก ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™œ๐™ฎ, ๐™‹๐™๐™ฎ๐™จ๐™ž๐™˜๐™–๐™ก ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™œ๐™ฎ, ๐™Ž๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™–๐™ก ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™œ๐™ฎ - though in varying quantities.  All the three forms of energy are however perfectly interchangeable.  One is free to transform one form of energy to other form(s) according to one's craving.  For instance, a wrestler converts spiritual and sexual energies into physical energy. That's why the wrestlers are usually dimwits, have very less sexual urge.  Likewise I have observed that hypersexuals lack physical energy, remain perennially jaded.  Ascetics, meditators use their energies most optimally.  By practising celibacy (เคฌ्เคฐเคน्เคฎเคšเคฐ्เคฏ) and refraining from all kinds of sexual practices, an ascetic successfully transforms the sexual energy into spiritual energy.  With this transformation, an ascetic gains :  (๐™–) ๐™ž๐™ข๐™ข๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™š ๐™ฅ๐™๐™ฎ๐™จ๐™ž๐™˜๐™–๐™ก ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™œ๐™ฎ.  (๐™—) ๐™˜๐™ก๐™–๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฉ?...

Is the world before our eyes real?

While walking at the Sukhna lake, my friend asked out of the blue, "Sanjay, Is Sukhna lake real or fake?" Astonished by his inquisitiveness, I responded, "What's your opinion?"  "Of course this lake is real! But I want your view?" he said.  "The lake's water is evaporating, changing it's form incessantly - becoming vapours. How can anything that is ever in a state of flux be real? Not only things, according to His Holiness Adi Shankaracharya ji, the entire world is only an illusion (เคฎाเคฏा)" I said playfully.  "You mean that all the beings including my wife, my children, my job are also unreal?" he asked sarcastically.  "Well, has your wife, your children, your job ever crossed your mind whenever you are in deep sleep?" I asked.  "No. But what all this conveys? Kindly elucidate." he asked curiously.   "You see, at any given point of time o...

Ways To Eliminate Material Desires.

Of all the things, I have found that desires are main obstacles in the way of God realization.  As long as one is obsessed with desires for material things & beings, salvation is not possible.  Our sacred scriptures (เคถाเคธ्เคฐ) explicitly state that one can safely satisfy the following four desires:  (a) Hunger.  (b) Thirst.  (c) Sleep.  (d) Calls of nature.  If one tries to satisfy desires apart from the four mentioned above, then one would indubitably be in grief, in bondage!  People nowadays are trying to find happiness in fulfilling their superfluous desires. But the fact is that fulfilment of a desire gives only fleeting pleasure, not lasting joy.  So it's only by reducing one's desires that one can enjoy infinite bliss.  Is there any way to reduce one's desires?  Well, there are three methods to eliminate superfluous desires.  I have named them as:  (a) Filling The Void Method.  (b) Overlook Method.  (c) Al...

Traits Of A Real Guru

Mentors play critical role in one's life. They guide and mould the character, personality of their students.  And yes, a guide need not be in a human form.  Lord Dattatreya had twenty four gurus like snake, honey bee, earth, air.  Broadly speaking, there are two kinds of mentors : (๐™–) ๐™๐™š๐™–๐™˜๐™๐™š๐™ง๐™จ : They impart knowledge about the material world, society. They equip their pupils with necessary social etiquettes, qualifications and skills so that they can earn their living.  (๐™—) ๐™‚๐™ช๐™ง๐™ช๐™จ : They take their students (เคถिเคท्เคฏ) out of delusions, make them see the real nature of material world. They help them in their pursuit of attaining Supreme Being so that they can remain perpetually blissful.  I personally believe that as compared to a teacher, a guru is more venerable, has much important role to play.  Goswami Tulsidas ji has explicitly written in Sri Ramcharitamanas :  "เค—ुเคฐु เคฌिเคจ เคญเคต เคจिเคงि เคคเคฐเค‡ เคจ เค•ोเคˆ."  (Without the help of a guru, no on...

Some Essentials For A Spiritual Aspirant.

Last week I received an email from a spiritual aspirant.  He requested me to share some valuable tips for progress on the spiritual path.  Well, let me make it clear that spiritual path is not an easy one. Also it is not for everyone.  In the contemporary world one can find umpteen persons claiming themselves to be the messengers of God. But most of them are plain fraudsters.  These very scoundrels have brought disrepute to the ochre robes.  I firmly believe that it is only due to the tendencies and impressions (เคธंเคธ्เค•ाเคฐ) from the present and past lifetimes that a person gets genuinely attracted towards spirituality.  Such an individual feels intense craving for the Lord.  This craving or pull is also referred to as "The Call Of The Lord" in our scriptures.  So strong is "The Call Of The Lord" that those who experience it renounce their wealth, family despite the counsels of their friends and relatives.  Prince Siddhartha (Gautam Buddha) renou...

The Objectives Of Spiritual Life And Material Life.

I have observed that achieving material objectives require less efforts than attaining spiritual goals.  It is no child's play to withdraw one's senses from sense objects.  In deep sleep, senses are withdrawn from sense objects automatically and one enjoys bliss, albeit for a brief period.  As soon as one awakens, one's senses again start running after the sense objects.  A wise monk understands that the happiness provided by sense objects is fleeting but ultimately they inflict much more sorrows, diseases.  Through continuous practice and wisdom, a monk is able to withdraw his senses from the sense objects, consciously.  He then channelizes all his thoughts in the direction of  Absolute Reality, who is the fountainhead of everlasting joy.  That's why a yogi remains perennially ecstatic, experiences unpolluted joy continually.  A monk has to meditate deeply, introspect a lot so as to mould his mind in such a way that it remains balance...
