Amusing Reasons For Taking A Walk

Obesity is the chief cause behind many deadly diseases like diabetes, hypertension.

According to a study by America's Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC), 42% of US population was obese in 2018.

Presently about 67% of US population is overweight.

No wonder, US has been hard hit by Covid-19!

Realizing the importance of good health, Government Of India has launched Fit India movement with a catchy slogan :

"फिटनेस का डोज, आधा घंटा रोज"

( to remain fit, one must do some kind of physical activity like jogging, yoga, climbing stairs for atleast half an hour every day ).

I firmly believe that human bodies are meant to move, not to sit endlessly behind computer screens, or lie lazily on a couch.

It is heartening to find that more and more people are coming out of their houses in Chandigarh, albeit for different, amusing reasons.

I have noticed that most of the youngsters jog with their mobiles tied firmly on their biceps, griped in their hands.

On being asked, they enlightened me that they have downloaded an app that keep record of their steps.

After taking ten thousand or more steps, they get heavy discounts on various gadgets.

Jogging and big discounts go side by side!

To my amazement, I often see elderly, retired people taking walk at odd hours.

"Uncleji, I often see you taking walk either in the late morning or in the afternoon. Early morning is the best time for walk" I suggested to an aged couple.

"We do not have any fixed time for walk.

As soon as our son leaves for his office and we are left alone with our daughter in law, I take my wife for a walk in the park" said the old man.

"But why?" I asked curiously.

"If we remain at home, our daughter in law sends us to various chores like taking children to tuitions, buying things from the market, preparing food so that she can have enough time for attending kitty parties or sleeping." said the sexagenarian bitterly.

Holding the leash of their dogs, these "walkers" are in fact dragged, forced to walk by their much powerful German Shepherds, Pit Bulls.

Interestingly, the duration of their "walk" is purely decided by the canines.

As soon as their pampered pets answer the call of nature, their "brisk walk" comes to an abrupt end!
