This Material World Is Not Meaningless!

"Why is there gloominess all around?
"Why do we all get miseries?
"Why must we attain God?"

These are the questions that I repeatedly encounter from my friends, spiritual seekers.

Well, there is not an iota of doubt that pain is all pervading in this temporal world.

We suffer the painful process of birth, crying helplessly.
As toddlers, we have needs but we can’t express them, so we cry incessantly.
During our youth, we have to grapple with bodily desires, sexual needs that cause mental agonies.
In married life, we endure the stupidities, eccentricities of the spouse.
Upon becoming old, we suffer from multiple debilitating diseases, bodily infirmities.
Finally we suffer the excruciating pain during death.

I have found that behind every material happiness lurks umpteen woes.
So don't get ecstatic if you achieve any material success!

Though this world is teeming with melancholies, it is not meaningless.
This painful world is a sort of reformatory for souls like us who have snapped their ties with the Supreme.

It is only by suffering miseries here that a soul becomes aware,  develops the desire for God - the fountainhead of inexhaustible bliss (सत् चित् आनन्द स्वरूप).

Try putting your hand in the fire, you would experience intense pain, burning sensation.
You would immediately remove your hand from the fire.
The pain thus indicates that something is wrong that needs to be rectified.
Likewise, the agonies, woes that we experience in this material world signals that we have glued our consciousness in the wrong way - to the material things, beings.
We need to progress from material consciousness.
We need to unify ourselves with the Supersoul (परमात्मा).

A spiritually awakened person realizes that this material world is only a temporary "house"- not  permanent "home".

Those who attach themselves with the God, get released from the cycle of life and death. This liberation is called "moksha" (मोक्ष).
They do not have to take birth again in this material world full of sufferings.

Those who are stuck with their material consciousness continue rotating in the wheel of birth and death. This is called bondage (बंधन).
