My मुरशिद (guide), My Dad.

🌹He lived a full life, on his own terms, with his head held high. Always a plain-speaking, he never compromised on his principles and invariably listened to his inner voice.
🌹A big-hearted, he believed that charity should be done in secret. It was only after his death that I came to know that he used to donate copiously to various institutions and non governmental organizations that provided free shelter to the homeless, education and nutritious food to the poor children.
🌹A voracious reader and a polyglot, he had excellent command over English, Urdu, Persian and Punjabi. With his Urdu ghazals and nazms, he often mesmerized his cronies.
🌹He relished his morning walk. Unruffled by the extreme climatic conditions, he would, without fail, wake up at 3.30am for his 5km long brisk walk, along with his constant companion - his oak wood baton.
🌹He firmly believed in the existence of Superpower that governs the destinies of all beings. He, however, had little faith in places of worship, abhorred religious rituals and rites. " The paramount purpose of all religions is to cleanse one's heart, mind and soul of umpteen vices. If religious persons can't purge themselves of jealousy, cunningness, hatredness and selfishness, then they are simply befooling themselves and others ", he once asserted.
🌹I once asked him about the importance of money in life. He replied, "Son, I personally believe that excessive wealth brings only miseries. Money can't buy happiness or esteem. If it were so, then all the loaded whores and eunuchs would be the most blissful, venerated sections of the society.
Son, there are only two ways to earn respect :

(a) Be compassionate towards all. To drive the point home, he would often recite the following दोहा (couplet) of the famous mystic, Kabir :

जो तोकूँ कॉटा बुवै, ताहि बोय तू फूल।
तोकूँ फूल के फूल हैं, बाकूँ है तिरशूल ।।

( Do good to even those who think ill of you. A person who sows flowers for others will reap flowers while those who sow thorny plants for others will ultimately get only agonies.)

(b) Use your knowledge and resources to provide succour to others".
🌹Extremely दानिश़ (wise), he was well aware about the true objective of human life, persistently worked towards it.
Just before his death, he requested all of us not to disturb him as he wanted to meditate. He looked admiringly at the portrait of Lord Shri Ram ji, smiled with a twinkle in his eyes. Within few minutes, he left his mortal body, attained the ultimate goal of human life, merged himself with the Supersoul.
