Why Marriages Are Losing Sheen?

Observing and mulling has led me to the conclusion that the institution of marriage, nowadays, is fastly becoming passe.
What prompts a person to marry?
A plethora of arguments have been forwarded by the votaries.
"Marriage provides necessary support".
Absolutely right.
I have, however, gathered that the spouses, especially in the modern times, start expecting a lot and  make unreasonable demands upon each other.
How can two beggars provide succour to each other?. Two unhappy, disgruntled souls can never forge a contented, heavenly  life.
"Marriage fulfills the need for sexual gratification".
I don't think this argument holds water in today's open and highly promiscuous society.
According to an acquaintance of mine ," Marriage means producing children so that the family legacy can be passed on".
As if he belongs to an illustrious aristocratic family and wants to hand over the reins of a vast empire to his children!
I strongly believe that marriage limits your love to a few, causing profusion of social maladies.
I don't know whether marriages are made in heaven or not but I know for sure that they are breeding malpractices in the contemporary world.
Overpossessiveness with one's kith and kin has resulted in copious corruption, selfishness and nepotism in every sphere of life.
It's no surprise that the masterminds behind biggest financial frauds are mostly married persons.
Growing numbers of bachelors and spinsters, unhappy marriages, piles of divorce cases in the courts evidently point to the fact that marriages are losing the sheen steadily, surely.
Marriages based on  love undoubtedly outlive those based on lust.
Selfless love entails "death" or effacing oneself completely for the sake of other. Certainly it is a rarity in the present times.
